Karyna Shuliak

1. Summary#

Karyna Shuliak (born May 31, 1989) is a Belarusian-born dentist and former model who was Jeffrey Epstein's girlfriend from approximately 2011 until his death by suicide in August 2019. She is the single most prolific correspondent in Epstein's email archive, appearing in 49,368 emails across 35,829 threads, with a date range spanning the entire archive. Her correspondence touches every facet of Epstein's domestic operations, from interior design and property management across his global real estate portfolio to travel logistics, staff supervision, and coordination with his inner circle of lawyers, accountants, and household employees.

Shuliak was the largest individual beneficiary named in the Amended and Restated Jeffrey E. Epstein 2019 Trust, dated February 4, 2019, which designated her to receive $100 million outright plus a $20 million annuity, a total of $120 million that dwarfed all other individual bequests. However, this was superseded by the 1953 Trust, executed on August 8, 2019 (the day of Epstein's death), which revised her bequest to $50 million outright plus a $50 million annuity, still totaling potentially $100 million. An earlier trust document had named her for $10 million, while a still earlier version listed her at $5 million. This trajectory represents a dramatic escalation in her financial position over time. Early Life and Family

Karyna Shuliak was born on May 31, 1989, as recorded in train booking records and confirmed by a BCG vaccination date of June 5, 1989, five days after her birth. Her father is Fedor Chouliak (the French transliteration of the Belarusian surname Шуляк, rendered in English as "Shuliak"), as documented in an Institut Villa Pierrefeu application form from October 2018. Her mother is Tatiana Shuliak (born approximately 1968, based on her email address [email protected]), who communicated with her daughter in Russian and provided design opinions for Epstein's properties. The family referred to Karyna affectionately as "Кариша" (Karisha), a Russian diminutive.

Shuliak's parents lived in Minsk, Belarus as of 2012, when Epstein arranged their travel from Minsk via Moscow to New York JFK on Aeroflot, booked on his American Express Centurion account. The email instructed: "Jojo, you will be picking up Karyna's mom and dad." When Shuliak's parents visited New York in December 2017, she wrote to Epstein: "my parents have left today, so 10B is now empty," indicating they stayed in guest apartment 10B at 301 East 66th Street. Epstein also arranged medical care for Shuliak's mother, asking Eva Dubin to set up a doctor's appointment for "tatyana shuliak".

Immigration and Citizenship

Shuliak's path to U.S. citizenship is documented across multiple years in the archive. In May 2017, she still required a Schengen visa for European travel and had a "visa appointment on May 24th," with staff booking hotel reservations for her visa application. This indicates she was not yet a U.S. citizen at that time, as U.S. passport holders are exempt from Schengen visa requirements. However, by June 2018, she held a United States passport valid from June 13, 2018 to June 12, 2028, and declared her nationality as "United States of America" on the Institut Villa Pierrefeu application form, where she checked "I don't need a visa" for Schengen entry. This means Shuliak became a naturalized U.S. citizen between May 2017 and June 2018, during the period of her relationship with Epstein.

Alternative Names and Email Addresses

Shuliak used both "Karyna" and "Karina" interchangeably throughout the archive. "Karyna" appears on official documents including her U.S. passport and DEA registration, while she signed personal emails as "Karina" even when the account name displayed "Karyna Shuliak." Over the course of her relationship with Epstein, she used at least five different email addresses:

Shuliak attended dental school in Minsk, Belarus, before enrolling at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine in New York, from which she graduated in May 2015 with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree, as confirmed in her DEA Registration Application from January 2019. In a residency application essay she sent to Epstein in July 2014, she described her decision to pursue a general dentistry residency as rooted in her experience starting in Minsk and continuing at Columbia, as well as work as a dental assistant for general dentists, prosthodontists, and periodontists.

After graduating, Shuliak obtained a U.S. Virgin Islands dental license (State License number redacted, expiring September 30, 2020) and a DEA registration allowing her to prescribe controlled substances in all drug schedules (II-V). Her National Provider ID was 1063886083. She practiced at LSJ Dental LLC, located at 6100 Red Hook Quarters, Suite B-3, St. Thomas, VI 00802 — essentially a dental office on or near Little St. James island, housed in a building owned by LSJE LLC, an Epstein entity. A Professional Protector Plan for Dentists property supplement from October 2015 described the practice as having "1 operatory, 300 sq ft office in 1200 sq ft cement building," with the building owned by LSJE LLC and listing "Years in Practice: 1" as of 2015.

Epstein actively sought to advance Shuliak's dental career. In November 2014, Epstein emailed Robin Solomon requesting help with Shuliak's application for a general practice residency at Mount Sinai, writing that "my girlfriend is applying for general practice residency at mount sinai". Solomon agreed to arrange a "courtesy interview". Separately, in June 2015, Epstein forwarded Shuliak correspondence from Cecile de Jongh regarding dental licensure rules in the U.S. Virgin Islands, in which the Acting Solicitor General indicated that "any prospective dentist can take the practice test portion of the exam now." A document in the archive shows Shuliak's involvement in ordering dental equipment for Little St. James island in May 2014, and she forwarded information about a dental unit chair purchase from eBay destined for the island in June 2013.

Institut Villa Pierrefeu — Swiss Finishing School

In 2019, Shuliak enrolled in an elite Swiss finishing school, a detail that became significant when Epstein was arrested during her studies. Between June 16 and July 26, 2019, she attended the Institut Villa Pierrefeu in Glion/Montreux, Switzerland, for a 6-week IEP Diploma Course that included Effective Communication, Practical Housekeeping, The Art of Personal Presentation, Leadership training, and notably Butler & Estate Management. On her application form, she stated she hoped to gain "The ability to hold salons in New York" from the course. She was recommended by Ariane Rothschild, a social connection to the prominent Rothschild family. The course cost CHF 34,510 (approximately $35,000), which was paid by wire transfer from LSJE LLC, an Epstein entity, transmitted by Bella Klein. Shuliak stayed in a single room at the Hotel Victoria during the course.

This was the school Shuliak referenced in her communications with Darren Indyke immediately after Epstein's arrest on July 6, 2019, when she wrote that she had been "studying at school there for the [past weeks]" and would "have to terminate for the obvious reason". Her mailing address on the application was listed as 6100 Red Hook Quarters, suite B-3, St. Thomas, VI 00802 — the same address as her dental practice. The application also documented her religion as Agnostic.

Business Entities and Financial Arrangements

The archive documents Shuliak's connection to two LLCs listed in Epstein's trust documents: JSC Interiors, LLC and SLK Designs, LLC, both of which appear in the 2019 trust's loan forgiveness provisions. One of Shuliak's email addresses ([email protected]) corresponds to JSC Interiors, which was listed as a payroll entity in Epstein's 2015 payroll and benefits analysis with $235,801 in total costs.

A Deutsche Bank presentation to the Southern District of New York from September 12, 2019, one month after Epstein's death, revealed the full extent of financial payments flowing to Shuliak and her entities:

• JSC Interiors LLC had a checking account at Deutsche Bank opened December 4, 2013, described as "Checking account for daily activities associated with running an interior design company"

Shuliak also held a joint NOW checking account with Jennifer Kalin, opened December 13, 2013. On the account application, Kalin's employer was listed as NPS LLC with an address at 4 East 71st Street (Epstein's Manhattan townhouse), while Shuliak's employer was listed as "STUDENT", indicating she had no independent source of income. In March 2018, the account experienced an overdraft, prompting Deutsche Bank to warn: "this account still has not been replenished. Please have Jennifer or Karyna wire funds in today to avoid any returned payments or fees." This joint account arrangement, along with the characterization of Shuliak as a student despite her dental degree, reveals her complete financial dependence on Epstein's funding.

Shuliak's role in interior design and property management for Epstein's properties is reflected extensively throughout her correspondence. All of her travel was booked on Epstein's American Express Centurion account, with billing address at 301 East 66th Street. Her parents' international travel from Belarus was similarly funded by Epstein. Even her elite finishing school education in 2019 was paid from Epstein's corporate account. She had no apparent independent income source outside Epstein's entities — her dental practice operated in an Epstein-owned building under an Epstein-controlled LLC, her interior design work was conducted through Epstein-funded entities, and her living expenses flowed through accounts funded by Epstein.

Response to Epstein's 2019 Arrest

When Epstein was arrested on July 6, 2019, Shuliak was attending the Institut Villa Pierrefeu in Montreux, Switzerland. She contacted Darren Indyke immediately, writing that she wanted "to be prepared to go back to NY as soon as I can" and explaining she would "have to terminate" her studies "for the obvious reason". Indyke advised her to "stay put until we know more." She booked train tickets from Paris to Lausanne to Montreux on July 8 to retrieve her belongings, then cancelled return tickets through Geneva as plans changed. She also forwarded a question from Jean Huguen about the Marrakech house trip to Epstein's email, asking whether to contact agents about the matter. Mark W. Lloyd reached out to Shuliak, writing: "I have just heard about Jeffrey's situation. I hope things will resolve themselves tomorrow. Let me know if I can do anything." She responded: "Thank you very much for your support. It means a lot."

An FBI FD-302 interview of Richard Barnett conducted on September 16, 2019, more than a month after Epstein's death, identified "KARYNA (Known to the FBI as KARYNA SHULIAK)" as one of Epstein's girlfriends, confirming that federal investigators had identified Shuliak and were aware of her role in Epstein's life. This document indicates the FBI was investigating Shuliak's connections to Epstein as part of the broader criminal inquiry, though no evidence of subpoenas, depositions, or cooperation agreements involving Shuliak appears in the public archive.

Reporting from 2019 identified Shuliak as Epstein's girlfriend at the time of his death.

3. Correspondence with Epstein#

Scope and Volume

Shuliak shared 16,951 emails with Jeffrey Epstein, making him by far her most frequent co-correspondent. Her correspondence begins as early as November 23, 2011, when she wrote to "Jeffrey" thanking him for flowers: "Jeffrey! What a surprise! I remember these flowers, they are so gorgeous!! It is so nice of you sending them to our place, thank you so much!!" The phrase "our place" suggests she was living with a roommate or family at that time, before moving into Epstein's orbit. By January 2012, she was already traveling to St. Thomas for Epstein, with her travel arrangements handled by his staff and her billing address listed as 301 E. 66th St., NY 10065 — Epstein's residential building.

The emails from the first year of their relationship reveal the development of an intimate connection. In April 2012, Epstein wrote to her: "Miss you." Days earlier, he had written simply: "Finished?". The correspondence evolved from these brief personal messages to detailed operational communications about property management, staff coordination, and travel logistics. Throughout the archive, her emails range from intimate notes like "Will try to sleep. Miss you..." (December 2018) and "At the apartment...So beautiful!!" (February 2019) to extensive coordination of Epstein's household operations.

The June 2013 Argument: Awareness of the "Massage Room"

A remarkable email exchange from June 11, 2013 reveals both the nature of Shuliak and Epstein's relationship and her explicit awareness that Epstein was seeing other women in his "massage room" — the central location of his sexual abuse operation. The exchange began with Epstein listing ten complaints that Shuliak had made to him, including:

• "for the whole week we didn't have sex"
• insecurity about Epstein's comments regarding older women
• complaints about birthday plans
• complaints about toys
• complaints about yoga

Epstein concluded: "the bottom line is i love you."

Shuliak's response was pointed and revealing: "it can not be only my effort if we want to have a good sex life" — and crucially: "you did find time for someone else in your massage room that day." This statement demonstrates that Shuliak was explicitly aware that Epstein met other women in a dedicated "massage room" in his residence, and that these encounters took place even when he claimed to be too busy for her.

Epstein's reply specifically denied: "no massage activity that day. zero." He added: "guests leon and barnaby came at 515." The fact that Epstein felt compelled to specifically deny "massage activity" rather than simply denying seeing another woman indicates both parties understood what "massage room" activities entailed. This exchange is the most direct evidence in the archive that Shuliak was aware of Epstein's pattern of meeting women in his massage room while maintaining a primary relationship with her.

Domestic Operations and Property Management

Shuliak functioned as a de facto household manager across Epstein's properties. She coordinated cleaning schedules for "girl's apartments" at 301 East 66th Street, a residential building where multiple women associated with Epstein lived. In an August 2017 email, she distributed an updated cleaning schedule listing specific apartments (11B, 2G, 10N, and her own unit 8H) and contact information for residents. When a guest apartment had a roach problem, Lesley Groff offered options including staying "at 71st or hotel until wed", referencing the townhouse at 9 East 71st Street.

Shuliak liaised with Bloomingdale's contacts for rugs and bedding, coordinated furniture orders for Palm Beach and dining furniture for Little St. James, and forwarded design opinions from her mother Tatiana in Russian. She arranged a flower decorating project for 9 East 71st Street in 2014. Epstein forwarded her an Estate Management Academy curriculum in November 2016 to evaluate staff training options — a precursor to her own enrollment in the butler and estate management course at Institut Villa Pierrefeu three years later.

She also managed operational relationships with Epstein's staff. She was copied on staff scheduling and time-off requests, and she organized emergency CPR and defibrillator training for Epstein's New York staff in coordination with Eva Dubin. Beginning in 2017, she worked with Dubin to set up an emergency room on Epstein's island, asking for recommendations on who could help design and equip the facility.

Island Development

A notable April 2018 email from Epstein, sent to Shuliak's email address but addressed to "Ramon" (likely an architect), critiqued development plans for the islands. Epstein complained that "most if not all the things that you and i discussed on the trips to the island were fully ignored", citing issues with "shade infinity pool, number of seats, bedroom windows, location of girls, wind." He noted that "the great st james doesnt even have informative elevations". That this message was sent to Shuliak's address indicates she served as a conduit for communications about island construction.

Marrakech Property

In 2019, Shuliak served as the primary point of contact for Epstein's potential property purchase in Marrakech, Morocco. She communicated with Jean Huguen regarding the Marrakech house visit, requesting architectural plans and coordinating logistics. Epstein set a deadline through Shuliak, stating "our interest will expire at the end of this month as we will move on to another house". She also corresponded with Marc Leon of Kensington Luxury Properties about the Bin Ennakhil property, discussing tax and transfer issues.

American Express and Financial Access

Shuliak had access to Epstein's American Express Centurion account for travel bookings. In one email she reported to Epstein that "American Express asked that you call them" because she was "not able to make a travel reservation, since they can not see any authorized users on the account." Her flights were routinely booked through the Centurion Travel Service on Epstein's account, and in one instance Epstein instructed his staff to "book Karyna in first class if they have it".

Shuliak's most significant co-correspondents reflect her integration into Epstein's operational inner circle:

• Jeffrey Epstein — 16,951 shared emails. Shuliak's primary correspondent, the relationship was both personal and operational.
• Lesley Groff — 6,498 shared emails. Epstein's longtime executive assistant, with whom Shuliak coordinated travel bookings, apartment cleaning schedules, flight arrangements, and staff matters.
• Bella Klein — 3,392 shared emails. An Epstein employee who handled financial and administrative tasks, often copied on property purchases and furniture orders. Klein transmitted the CHF 34,510 wire payment from LSJE LLC for Shuliak's Institut Villa Pierrefeu course in 2018.
• Rich Kahn — 3,319 shared emails. Epstein's accountant and co-trustee, involved in financial transactions and property management.
• Darren Indyke — 520 shared emails. Epstein's attorney and co-trustee, who advised Shuliak after Epstein's 2019 arrest.
• Eva Dubin — Shuliak maintained a warm personal relationship with Eva Dubin, wife of hedge fund manager Glenn Dubin. She sent Dubin a birthday greeting in 2023, calling her "one of the most wonderful women I know." The two collaborated on medical and emergency room planning for Epstein's island. Epstein also asked Dubin to arrange a doctor's appointment for Shuliak's mother, providing the name "tatyana shuliak".
• Larry Visoski — 1,419 shared emails. Epstein's chief pilot, who coordinated private jet logistics with Shuliak for trips to Palm Beach and elsewhere.
• Ann Rodriguez — 1,425 shared emails. Island property manager who handled dental equipment orders for LSJ and transportation logistics.
• Mark W. Lloyd — Contacted Shuliak immediately after Epstein's arrest, offering support and stating he would fly to New York if bail was granted.
• Nathan Myhrvold — Shuliak and Epstein attended an invention session hosted by Myhrvold's assistant Claudia Leschuck in August 2013 and signed NDAs.
• Jean-Luc Brunel — In April 2013, Epstein instructed Shuliak to add "alex the driver, caroline lang, jean luc" to her Paris contacts "for porblmes [problems] in paris," indicating she was in contact with Brunel, who was later charged with sex trafficking in connection with the Epstein case.

• Deepak Chopra — In August 2016, Epstein forwarded a photo taken with Shuliak to Chopra with the message "Wish you were here."
• Harry Fisch — The same August 2016 photo was forwarded to Fisch, a prominent urologist and male fertility specialist, though no explicit medical discussions appear in the archive.
• Ariane Rothschild — Recommended Shuliak to the Institut Villa Pierrefeu finishing school. This points to a social connection to the Rothschild banking family.

Other Women in the Network

The archive documents Shuliak's coordination with or awareness of multiple other women in Epstein's network:

• Assaya — Referenced in a June 24, 2019 email from Epstein to Shuliak (12 days before his arrest): "assaya said she was viisted [visited] by bad spirts [spirits] ?? OY." In February 2019, Epstein coordinated travel for both women simultaneously: "get karyna a first class ticket... assaya to new york, tues late." Shuliak appears in a 2015 payroll and benefits analysis for Epstein's entities, with JSC Interiors listed as a payroll entity with $235,801 in total costs. The most comprehensive financial documentation comes from the Deutsche Bank presentation to SDNY from September 12, 2019, which revealed that through Deutsche Bank alone, Shuliak and her entity received nearly three-quarters of a million dollars in documented payments over approximately six years.

6. Visits to Epstein Properties#

Manhattan townhouse (9 East 71st Street)

Shuliak had regular access to the townhouse and used it as an address. A Postmates delivery receipt from October 18, 2016, shows food delivered to "Karyna Shuliak, 9 E 71st St, New York, NY 10021." She arranged a flower project at the address in September 2014. The apartment cleaning emails reference 71st Street as an option when guest apartments at 301 E. 66th were unavailable.

301 East 66th Street apartments

Shuliak lived in apartment 8H at this building, as documented in cleaning schedule emails from May 2017 and the girl's apartments cleaning schedule from August 2017. Order confirmations show her shipping address as "301 E 66th St." A CITICAR confirmation from February 2014 shows her pickup at "301 E 66 ST" en route to JFK airport. She managed 8H deliveries as early as July 2012.

Palm Beach, Florida

Multiple documented visits:

1. November 2015 — Shuliak confirmed she was "in PB with JE" on November 1, 2015, the same day Epstein sent a travel schedule mentioning "new york" and "paris".
2. November 2016 — Tickets booked for Shuliak and another person to fly to Palm Beach on November 22.
3. December 2016 — Tickets booked for Shuliak to fly to PB on December 24.
4. March 2015 — Shuliak arranged to depart for Palm Beach on a Saturday night with Epstein's iMac on the plane.
5. October 2017 — Email references someone "going Palm Beach tonight with Jeffrey with all her luggage", with Shuliak coordinating the apartment swap.
6. March 2019 — Shuliak ordered new cushion inserts for outdoor furniture in Palm Beach.

Little St. James Island (LSJ)

Multiple documented visits and interactions:

1. November 2012 — Flight booked for Shuliak to travel to St. Thomas, USVI on November 1, 2012.

A photo sent from Shuliak's email to Epstein depicted a scene at Little St. James with significant details: "A man, identified as Ghislaine Maxwell's former associate, sits on a white couch. A woman, with her face obscured by a black box, stands in front of a large white double door. She is wearing white lingerie and white stockings. The scene appears to be on a tiled patio with stone walls and a white pillar. A doormat with the initials 'LSJ' is visible." The description continues: "The image depicts Jeffrey Epstein sitting on a white couch while a woman in white lingerie and stockings kneels beside him. They appear to be on a patio with a stone wall and white doors in the background." This photo, showing a woman in lingerie on the LSJ patio with Epstein, was then forwarded by Epstein to both Harry Fisch and Deepak Chopra. Shuliak's role in sending the photo demonstrates her involvement in or awareness of sexualized activities on the island.

3. July 2019 — Shuliak was in Paris at the time of Epstein's arrest. She asked Epstein about adding "Valdson (your Paris chef)" to a contact list.

Marrakech, Morocco

No documented visit, but Shuliak served as the primary liaison for a potential property purchase in January–April 2019 and coordinated Jean Huguen's planned visit to the property in July 2019.

7. Criminal Exposure Assessment#

In a 2013 email forwarded to Epstein, a woman wrote that she had found someone new, adding: "Btw, Jeffrey, she claimed she gives a good massage.." — with Shuliak on the thread as the coordinator of such arrangements. In a 2019 email regarding a trip to Paris, Epstein listed activities including "kobido" (a Japanese facial massage technique), with Shuliak coordinating pickup of a woman arriving at Charles de Gaulle airport and arranging massage appointments at 2pm and 3pm.

Shuliak's own emails confirm her awareness that "massage" was a central feature of the household operation. When describing another woman's responsibilities in the household, Shuliak characterized them as "some basic errands and massage". She understood massage duties to be a routine staff function.

Managing the "Girl's Apartments" at 301 East 66th Street

Shuliak managed a network of apartments at 301 East 66th Street where multiple young women associated with Epstein lived. She distributed detailed cleaning schedules for the "Girl's apartments" listing specific units (1N, 2G, 8A, 8H, 10F, 11B) with residents' contact information. She organized a weekly cleaning rotation with a housekeeper named Blanca, distributing apartment codes. She coordinated AT&T phone service transfers for the women, with a technician named Bella Klein noting she needed "your current phone bill, passcode on the account" and "the new Apple phone" from all the women simultaneously.

Shuliak purchased items for the women at Epstein's direction, writing: "I'd like to bye some shoes for you that Jeffrey liked, can you please let me know what sizes are you?". She also managed their domestic schedules, including organizing group outings to the Hasty Pudding club with instructions to "meet at 6pm downstairs at 301." A March 2017 event list for Hasty Pudding showed Shuliak coordinating attendance for multiple women, some bringing friends, with additional seats being offered.

Controlling Access to Epstein's Residence

Shuliak served as a gatekeeper for the women's access to Epstein's townhouse at 9 East 71st Street. In one email, she relayed Epstein's instructions: "Jeffrey is coming late tonight, so he asked that you don't come to the house today please, he said you can come tomorrow after 12:00pm". She coordinated the women's travel to Epstein's Palm Beach property, booking group flights and organizing logistics. When Epstein's muffins were left behind during a trip, Shuliak reprimanded the group: "How is that possible, that after all the food discussions, Jeffrey's muffins (the only item that was supposed to be packed) were left in the house, while all of you were sitting around??".

Coordination with Known Traffickers
